Richard L. Fleener, age 80, passed away Tuesday morning, April 5, 2016 at his home in Martinsville.
He was born in Indianapolis on August 25, 1935, to his parents, the late Woodrow W. and Mabel E. (Zook) Fleener. Richard was a 1954 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to retire in 1992 from Citizens Gas & Coke Utility as a pipefitter in Indianapolis after 30 years of service. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1400 in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rose Sharon (Schoolcraft) Fleener, whom he married on February 16, 1957 in Martinsville. Richard is also survived by his children, Pamela Woods of Avon and Melody Cockrum of Carmel; grandchildren, Alexandria Powell of Avon, Chandler Cockrum and Chloe Cockrum both of Carmel; great grandchild, London Powell of Avon; siblings, Betty Asher of Indianapolis, Peggy Fish, Harry (Donna) Fleener and Thomas Fleener Sr. all of Martinsville.
Richard was preceded in death by siblings, Sue Fleener and Barbara Denniston.
He enjoyed the outdoors by tending to his garden and riding his four wheeler alongside his dog “Gabby”. Richard also enjoyed traveling to Missouri with friends and family for horseback riding. He was a fan of the Indiana Pacers and Indiana University Men’s Basketball.
The Revs. Adam Fleener and Daniel Fleener will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
