Mr. Richard E. "Pops" Lewis

Richard E. ‘Pops’ Lewis, age 81, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2019 at his home in Brown County.

He was born on January 8, 1938 in Franklin to his parents, the late Granville E. and Lillian (DeVare) Lewis. Pops was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School. He served as an Airman Second Class with the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. Pops retired in 1999 as a custodian for the Bean Blossom Animal Clinic after 18 years of service.

Pops was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover. He enjoyed the outdoors by camping, fishing, horseback riding and tending to his vegetable garden. Pops was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers and NASCAR, with his favorite driver being Dale Earnhart Sr. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, ability to make lasting friendships and his love for family.

He is survived by his daughter, Katrina (Jon) Harsch of Brown County; sister, Joan ‘Boots’ Daugherty of New Whiteland; grandson, Jonathan (Brittany) Harsch of Brown County; great grandchildren, Chloe, Eleanor and Corbin.

Pops was preceded in death on December 11, 1989 by his wife, Melissa G. (Carlisle) Lewis, whom he married on September 19, 1970 in Peoga; an infant son; and siblings, Glen and David Lewis.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be presented by the United States Air Force and the Brown County Honor Guard.
