Martha Ann (Windle) Wilborn, age 80, passed away Sunday morning, November 22, 2015 at her home in northern Brown County.
She was born in Kokomo on February 21, 1935, to the late Fred David and Opal Cynthia (Bauer) Windle. Martha grew up and attended school in Licking, MO and later moved to Indiana where she attended & was a cheerleader for Eastern Howard High School in Kokomo. She met her husband, Elmer Cole Wilborn, on a blind date and both knew from the start that their romance would last a lifetime. Martha and Elmer were married on June 21, 1952 at Martha's parents' home in Beech Grove. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2015 after 62 devoted years of marriage.
Martha was a loving mother and homemaker. In her younger years, she worked as a hostess and cook in the Riley Room of Blocks Department Store downtown Indianapolis. Prior to that, she worked the counter at the Murphy's Department Store in Fountain Square. Martha's passion for cooking led her to use her skills to feed many baseball players at the Bolen Missouri Baseball Camp. She & her husband also ran the kitchen in the baseball camp in Winter Haven, FL. Martha was a former member of Midway Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, growing flowers & reading, especially her Bible.
Martha is survived by her children, Jennifer Whetstine and Mark (Nancy) Wilborn both of Brown County; brother, Larry David (Shirley) Windle of Greenwood; 16 grandchildren: Jason, Heath (Pam), Matthew (Tonie), Nichole, Sophia, Christine, Katherine, Joshua, Andrew, Kyle, Robert, Philip, Justin, Misty, Angela, Shannon, and 21 great-grandchildren: Jason Jr., Jennifer, Heath Jr., Rebecca, Sean, Dalton, Olivia, Darryl, Alexis, Jessica, Michael, Mark, Maddilyn, Aubrey, Timothy, Joseph, Ariannah, Ashtin, Anthony, Kaiden, and Cooper.
Martha was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Opal Lasley; sons, Timothy Cole & Fred David Wilborn; granddaughters: Heather Lasley and Angel Wilborn; siblings, Jean Koch, Violet Ronk, Jack Windle, Bud Windle and Cynthia Cook.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center located at 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
