Hubert "Bob" Summers, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Morgantown on Tuesday morning, October 15, 2013.
Bob was born December 9, 1922, in Casey County, KY, to the late William Richard and Vergie Francis (Whethington) Summers. He married Frankie June (Lothery) Summers on November 12, 1954 in New Albany. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1999 after 45 years. He married Lucy Alma (Byus) Summers on January 13, 2000 in Franklin. She survives in Greenwood.
Bob retired as a Truck Driver from Dohrn Trucking in Indianapolis in 1979. He was a farmer, raising crop tomatoes which he sold to the Red Gold Canning Factory in Trafalgar. Bob enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. Bob enjoyed playing & singing with the Blue Grass Gospel Four group and also playing and singing in church and with friends.
Bob is survived by include three sons: Dayton (Charmaine) Summers of N. Clarendon, VT, James (Renae) Summers of Columbus & Travis (Lou) Summers of Morgantown; three daughters: Letia (Jack) Mason of Franklin, Betty (Paul) Haney of Springhill, FL & Brenda Gater of Sellersburg; two step-sons: Jim (Barbara) Lothery of Sellersburg & Robert (Elizabeth) McLaughlin of Greenwood; two brothers: Martin (Catherine) Summers of Pittsboro & George Summers of Rockford, IL; seventeen grandchildren & step grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren..
He was preceded in death by one daughter: Eldia Owensby; one son: Richard Allen Summers; one grandson: Greg Mason; one sister: Christine Miller and one brother: Francis Summers.
The Rev. Rick Owensby and Sim Brock will conduct a funeral service at 10 am Saturday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Borden, IN.
