George L. Earlywine passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Tuesday evening, December 30, 2014 at the Homeview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Franklin. He was a resident of Trafalgar.
George was born in Franklin on March 21, 1924 to his parents, the late George G. and Mary (Richardson) Earlywine. He was a 1942 graduate of Trafalgar High School and went on to serve as a Fire Controlman 3rd Class with the United States Navy during World War II. After returning from the war, George married Crystal H. Knight on July 20, 1945 in Spearsville. She lovingly survives after 69 devoted years of marriage. He also attended Franklin College and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors of Art Degree in Economics.
George is also survived by his children: Sandra K. (Donald) Miller of Spencer, Bruce A. (Jenny) Earlywine and David W. (Jerry) Earlywine both of Trafalgar. He will be remembered by his sister: Marion Pfaehler of Trafalgar; grandchildren: Holly Hyser and Crystal (Joe) Wyatt both of Spencer, Michelle (Ron) Twaddell of Avon, Alicia Parrott of Greenwood, Michael (Dawn) Earlywine and Angela Weiskittel both of Indianapolis and Chad (Kandy) Earlywine of Martinsville; 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by a sister: Lillian Griffin.
He retired in 1974 as a Civil Service Provider with the Office of Personnel at the Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis. After retirement, George worked for Proctor & Gamble as a Store Setter and a Greeter at Meijer in Greenwood.
He attended the Franklin Pilgrim Holiness Church and the Martindale Church of Christ in Indianapolis. George was a member of the Southside Corvette Club and the Toastmasters of Indianapolis. He had a passion for working on auto and restoring antique automobiles. George enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery with military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
