Melvina L. (Day) Smith, age 81 passed away Sunday morning, July 7, 2013 at the Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville. She was a resident of Martinsville and a former resident of Corydon, Indiana.
Melvina was born November 13, 1931 in Seymour to her parents, the late Luther V. & Helen (Blankenship) Day. She married William H. Smith on April 18, 1952 in Sandborn. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1986 after thirty-four loving years of marriage.
Melvina was a dedicated mother, grandmother and wife who enjoyed flower gardening, reading Harlequin Romance novels, watching old western movies, cooking & baking and traveling with her husband whom was an 8over-the-road driver. Melvina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Croix, Indiana.
She is survived by two daughters: Jeanette Lindsey of Hodgenville, KY & Tammy Costin of Salem; three sons: Anthony (Melanie) Smith of Martinsville, William (Kim) Smith of CA & James Edward Smith of Stuttgart, AK. Melvina will be remembered by her brother: Lowell Keith "Sunny" Day of Hardinsburg; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son: Joseph Smith; two sisters: Margaret Rose Day & Mary Rolen; two brothers: Marvin C. & Luther V. Day, Jr. and a grandson: Matthew R. Smith.
The Rev. Mike Day will conduct a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
