Willis "Willie" Johnson, age 80 passed away Monday afternoon, September 22, 2014 at the Franklin Meadows Nursing Home. He was a resident of Nashville.
Willie was born on April 29, 1934 in Casey County, KY, to the late Millard and Betty (Allen) Johnson. He married Wilma J. (Emerson) Johnson on May 26, 1956 in Edinburgh. She lovingly survives after 58 years of marriage.
Willie was one of 13 children which made it natural for him to be a true family man. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Willie retired in 1991 as a Planer from Amos Hills in Edinburgh after 15 years of service. He also worked as a Laborer for Dunlap Construction Company in Columbus for over 30 years. After retirement, he built many log homes in the area. Willie was a member of the Local 741 Laborers International Union of North America and attended the Full Gospel Church in Edinburgh, where he enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. Willie had an extensive knife collection and was known for his knife sharpening skills and wood whittling.
Willie will be remembered by his wife, Wilma and their children: Jesse Johnson of Shelbyville and Glen D. Johnson of Amity; siblings: Imogene McGaha & Mary Burton both of Edinburgh and Charlie Johnson of Columbus; four grandchildren: Glen Johnson Jr. of Edinburgh, Melinda Sue Johnson of New Whiteland, Corey (Kristin) Johnson of Greenwood and Christopher Johnson of Shelbyville; and five great grandchildren: Jordan, Owen, Kaleb, Adeline and Landen.
He was preceded in death by a one son: Randy Johnson; siblings: Pauline Adams, Margie Burton, Ruby Curry, Ovel, Omar, Wilbert, Vitas, Ural and Luchen Johnson.
The Rev. Doug Smith will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, located at 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spearsville Wesleyan Cemetery in Brown County.
