Virginia Faye (Miller) Walker

October 6, 1923 - March 4, 2016

Virginia Faye (Miller) Walker, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, March 4, 2016. She was born on October 6, 1923, in Mode, Illinois, to the late Lawrence M. and Faye (Compton) Miller. Virginia was the 5th of 7 children. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1942 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Indiana Central College in 1946. Virginia taught at several schools in Indianapolis from 1946 to 1959 and at Clinton Young Elementary in Perry Township from 1960 to 1979.

She married Ervin F. Walker of North Vernon on October 21, 1948 in Indianapolis. Together they raised four children and lived in Indianapolis until 1972 when they moved to a farm in Morgantown. They lived there until 1998. Shortly after Ervin's passing on October 5, 2002, Virginia moved to the Franklin United Methodist Community. She enjoyed living there, singing in the choir and volunteering in the library.

Virginia was an active member of the University Heights United Methodist Church and the Morgantown United Methodist Church. She also attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin for many years. Other memberships include the Morgantown XI Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority and the Martinsville Friendly Neighbors Home Extension Club.

Her greatest joy in life was caring for her children and grandchildren. Virginia spent many hours playing with and spoiling them. Virginia had a "can-do" spirit and had many talents. She made beautiful quilts, enjoyed reading, and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Virginia had an adventurous spirit and even went sky-diving at the age of 86.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Pam (Jim) Arnold of New Albany, Gwen (Mark) Bushnell of Virginia Beach, VA and Lawrence (Karen) Walker of Trafalgar; son in law, Bruce Samm of Indianapolis and a sister in law, Joan Miller of Mode, IL. Also left to cherish her memory are twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah J. Samm in August of 2004.

The Rev. John Elliott will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 am on Thursday at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson Street in Franklin. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the Wright Chapel. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with a reception following at the Morgantown United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Franklin United Methodist Community for their loving care of Virginia for the past several years.
