Ruth E. (Gormley) Pickard, age 85 passed away Monday morning, April 1, 2013 at the Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County and former resident of Indianapolis.
Ruth was born in Schenectady, New York on October 15, 1927 to the late Paul D. & Amy (Rider) Gormley. She was a 1945 graduate of The Gateway School in New Haven, CT and went to earn her undergraduate degree in History from Brown University in 1949 and her Master's in Elementary Education in 1954 from the University of the State of New York. Ruth also attended Oxford University in England. She married Allen H. Pickard on April 28, 1951 in East Haven, CT. He lovingly survives after 61 devoted years.
Also surviving are her children: David S. (Jae) Pickard of Cincinnati, OH, Henry R. Pickard of Brown County, Janet C. (Mike) Bernstein of Los Gatos, CA and Todd S. Pickard of New York, NY. She will be remembered by her 2 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of the Brown County Presbyterian Fellowship Church, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and was a past president of the Brown County Literary Club. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century and the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Ruth enjoyed genealogy and was a Certified American Lineage Specialist. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and was a cat lover.
The Rev. Scott Seay will lead a Celebration of Ruth's Life on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 3 pm at the Brown County Presbyterian Fellowship Church, 602 St. Rd. 135 in Nashville. Friends may call from 2 pm until service time on Monday at the church. Interment will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Memorial services have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
