Richard R. Lex, age 82 passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, March 22, 2016 at R.L. Rouderbush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.
Richard was born September 14, 1933, in Indianapolis, to the late John and Lillian Ruth (Pack) Lex. He served as a Sergeant Drill Instructor in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Robert married Carolyn R. (Harvey) on August 18, 1956 in Beech Grove. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2009 after 52 devoted years of marriage.
Richard worked in the Maintenance/Housekeeping department at the Martinsville Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Order of DeMolay. He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others in need. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time in the outdoors and at the race track.
Richard will be missed by his children: Lesa L. Lex-Sizemore of Martinsville, Linda L. (John) Anderson of Indianapolis and Richie R. (Jennifer) Lex of Morgantown, Grandchildren: Josh Thacker, Christian Sizemore, , Michelle Behling, Thomas Behling, Austin Lex, great-grandchildren: Liam, James, Bexley and Emma, siblings, Bill (Anita) Lex, Annie (Bill) Gocke and Thomas (Jean) Lex.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Carolyn, daughter: Leslie L. Lex, grandchild: Joslyn Dawn Lex and siblings: John Lex, Norma Hittle, Bonnie Vehling and Robert Lex.
There will be a funeral service held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time at the funeral home with Military Rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion following the service.
