Paul Johnson, age 84 passed away Friday evening, February 7, 2014 at the Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Lawrence and a former resident of Greenwood.
Paul was born in Hyden, KY on March 25, 1929 to his parents, the late James and Lizzie (Jones) Johnson. He married Bertha Osborne in Leslie County, KY on January 28, 1950. She survives after 64 loving years.
Paul retired in 1974 from Stokely-Van Camp in Indianapolis after 20 years of service. He also worked for White Castle in the Maintenance Department during the 1960's and 70's. Prior to that, he worked in the coal mines in Kentucky before moving to Indiana.
He is survived by his wife; daughters: Bonnie Wilhite, Mary (James) Parish and Brenda Johnson all of Lawrence. Paul will be remembered his siblings: Eleanor (Forester) Walters of Ohio and Carl (Martha) Johnson of Morgantown; grandchildren: Catina (Jared) Schneider of Zionsville, Christoffer Parish of Broad Ripple, Corrie Parish and Brittany Wilhite both of Lawrence; great grandchildren: Cameron, Holden, Abigial, Jayden, Adalynn and Kendall.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Carol Sue Johnson; siblings: Pearle Johnson and Edith Johnson; and a son in law: Kenny Wilhite.
Paul attended the Church of the Bible in Franklin and enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, fishing and working in his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fan of wrestling.
The Rev. Richard McKnight will conduct a funeral service 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
