Opal Marie (Lucas) Petro, age 76, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. She was a resident of Nashville.
Marie was born September 17, 1938, in Brown County, to the late Vern and Helen (Abrham) Lucas. She was a loving homemaker and worked for RCA and Sarkes Tarzian Inc. both in Bloomington during her younger years. Marie also worked at the Red Gold Canning Factory in Trafalgar, Head Start School at Hickory Ridge and various waitress positions.
She is survived by her children: Debra (Delbert) Fleener of Martinsville, Reba Charlene Petro of Columbus, and Brenda (Wade) Nichalson of Morgantown. Marie will be remembered by her sisters: Edna Mansfield of Brownsburg and Linda (David) Henley of Lafayette; grandchildren: Chanda (fiancé, Mike) Van Cleave of Martinsville, Bobby (Ashley) Wilson, Amanda (Heath) Rittenhouse of Florida, Clayton (fiancé, Ashley) Catterton of Greenwood, Chris (fiancé, Amanda) Fleener and Scott (Cassie) Fleener both of Martinsville; ten great grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Betty Lucas and Robert Lucas; and twin infant grandsons.
Marie was an active member of the Brown County Community Church in Helmsburg. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, euchre and traveling. Marie loved to visit with family and friends and will be remembered as a very loving person who enjoyed eating hamburgers and bean burritos.
The Rev. Ken Smith will conduct a funeral service at noon on Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
