Mrs. Dorothy Ann Dine

March 29, 1927 - March 19, 2019

Dorothy Ann (Ellett) Dine, age 91 passed away Tuesday morning, March 19, 2019 at the Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County.

Dorothy was born March 29, 1927, in Morgan County to the late Fred and Pearl (Smith) Ellett. She married Morris K. Dine on February 21, 1944 in Morgantown. Dorothy & Morris were married while she was in her junior year at Trafalgar High School. She fondly remembers him placing a diamond ring on her finger just before he left to serve in the United States Army during WWII. Morris preceded her in death on February 24, 1999 after 55 loving years of marriage.
Dorothy was a devoted and longtime member of the Spearsville Church of Christ in Brown County. She taught Sunday School and was the church pianist for over 55 years.

Dorothy has been involved in some capacity with the Hickory Ridge Senior Center in Brown County since its inception in the 1950’s. She has held the offices of Secretary/Treasurer, Site Director and President over the years. Dorothy served as the former President for the Hamblen Township Civic League; served for four years on the Area 11 Agency on Aging in Columbus, where she was past President, Secretary & Vice-President; served on the Brown County Council for 12 years, from 1982 – 1994; and also served several terms as President of the Brown County Homemakers Extension during the 1970’s. Dorothy spent many years supporting her children’s projects with being Brown County 4-H Club Leader.

On the rare occasion that Dorothy wasn’t involved civically, she enjoyed spending time with her family, watching the Virginian television series and reading romance books. She also enjoyed acrylic painting. Dorothy`s greatest passion was to see the Hickory Ridge Senior Center thrive and grow. She planned many events for local seniors to enjoy and to raise funds to keep the center open for others. Many will remember Dorothy from learning to quilt at her quilt shop that was in Morgantown for 15 years.
Dorothy & her late husband, Morris, enjoyed gold prospecting in their early years and operated the Gold Prospector Shop in Nashville for several years.

She is survived by two daughters; Lisa (Alvin) Dine & Elva Lou (Travis) Summers, both of Brown County; sister; Helen Richhart of Spearsville; daughters-in-law, Bertha Dine of Brown County & Annie Dine of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Julia (Kyle) Berry, Sheena Ford, Jeremy (Haley) Dine, Patrick (Ashley) Dine, Steve Dine, Angie (David) Haywood, Monty (Jessica) Dine, Amy (Robert) Fisse, Tracy (Mark) Smith, Kelly Dine & Misty (John) Whetstine; several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
