Michael "Mike" A. Ray

November 14, 1951 - December 8, 2016

Michael A. ”Mike” Ray, age 65, passed away Thursday morning, December 8, 2016 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood and former resident of Trafalgar.

Mike was born November 14, 1951, in Franklin. He was a 1970 graduate of Indian Creek High School in Trafalgar and went on to attend Indiana University. Mike retired in 2011 as the owner and operator of DJ Ray Construction after 38 years of service. He was also the owner and operator of Ray Realty from 1997 to 2011.

Mike was a member of the Emmanuel Church of Greenwood and Greenwood Moose Lodge #2079. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and snow skiing in Colorado and Montana. Mike was a fan of Indiana University Men’s Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Brenda S. (Crawford) Ray, whom he married on April 19, 1997 in Indianapolis. Mike is also survived by his parents, William A. “Bill” and Evelyn (Bower) Ray of Trafalgar; children, Darrell (Lorie) Ray of Franklin, Jacen (Kristen) Ray of Greenwood and Amanda Ray of West Palm Beach, Florida; siblings, Debbie (Steve) Scott, Cindy (Donald) Thompson and Scott (Dawn) Ray all of Trafalgar and David (Betsy) Ray of Warsaw; sister in law, Karen Ray of Franklin; step children, Tonya Kennedy of Danville, Brandon Wood of Greenwood and Justin (Pam) Wood of Noblesville; grandchildren Madison and Logan Ray, Ava and Lexi Ray, Drew and Kaitlyn DeHart, Mason, Bradley and Brennan Woods.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Rob” Ray.

Pastor Ben Greenbaum will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Trafalgar United Methodist Church, 375 Pleasant St. in Trafalgar. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will be at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Mike to the American Heart Association, 6100 W. 96th St. Ste. 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278.

I am so sorry to hear this. Mike was my brother in law and he was such a sweet kind man. Always smiling. I will never forget when he overcame his illness when we all were first married. He fought hard to overcome it. He had just become a new father then and you never saw anything but his huge smile through it all. He adored all his children. We were in the same graduating class too. God Speed my friend. You were loved.
