Mary A. (Stogdill) Long, age 76 passed away Thursday morning, November 15, 2012 at the Indiana University Hospital Morgan in Martinsville. She was a resident of Freetown.
Mary was born November 12, 1936 in Bedford to the late Otto Levi & Beulah Edna (Wootton) Stogdill. She worked most of her life as an Assembly Worker for Harmon Becker Automotivein Martinsville, PTS Electronics and RCA both of Bloomington. Mary also worked as a cook for Indiana University in Bloomington.
She was devoted to her family and her church family. Mary was known as a wonderful person who was always there for someone in need. Mary was a member of the Country-Gospel Music Church in Gnaw Bone and cherished spending time with her grandson, Daniel and his family. She loved to cook and bake and was famous for her blackberry cobblers. Mary enjoyed working & mowing inher yard,and cleaning her home.
She will be greatly missed by her two daughters: Janet A. Long of Freetown & Sally R. Richardson of Bloomington; grandchildren: Daniel L. (LaNora) Richardson of Columbus, Brian E. Richardson of Madisonville, KY & Jama Pierce of Spencer; great grandchildren: Jonathon Grubb of Terre Haute, Samantha Grubb of Bloomington, Jeff & Jordan Pierce both of Spencer; great-great grandchildren: Nikolai, Eva & Jaxson Russell. She will be remembered by her many siblings: Betty Reynolds of Greenfield, Lou Ella Stogdill & Sarah Mullis both of Bloomington, Lloyd Stogdill of Freetown, James "Bud" Stogdill of Nineveh, Joseph Stogdill of Greenwood & Samuel Stogdill of Franklin.
Mary was preceded in death by a son in law: James R. Richardson; one great-great grandson: Jeremy Dean Richardson; sisters: Norma Nash & Thelma Strunk; and brothers: Warren, William, David, Walter, & Charles Stogdill.
The Rev. Jim Ackerman will conduct a funeral service at noon on Monday at the Country-Gospel Music Church, 5181 St. Rd. 46 East in Gnaw Bone. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 am until service time on Monday at the Church. Burial will be at the Houston Cemetery in Jackson County.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
Mary's family strongly suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in honor of her to the Alzheimer's Disease South Central Chapter, PO Box 547 Columbus, IN 47202.
