Margot Staggs Obituary

Margot (Kautschor) Staggs, age 91, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 9, 2016 at The Hearth at Stones Crossing. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Martinsville.

Margot was born July 31, 1925, in Beuthen, Germany to the late, Joseph and Martha (Polocik) Kautschor. She graduated from High School in Germany. In 1947, at the age of 22, she arrived in the United States and became a United States Citizen in 1952. Margot enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

She was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 495, where she served as Past President. Margot attended the Community Church and the Southland Community Church both of Greenwood. She was employed as a Ward Secretary with Community South Hospital in Greenwood and as an Insurance Supervisor with Allstate Insurance before retiring.

Margot is survived by one daughter: Juliane (Gary) Pedigo of Greenwood; step-son: Noel Wayne (Judy) Staggs of Martinsville; sister Anka Kautschor of Germany; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Julian “Duke” Alberding; whom she married on July 14, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1977. Margot married Robert C. “Bud” Staggs on September 1, 1979 in Martinsville. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a son, Eric Alberding; step-son, Robert William Staggs and siblings, Louise Spinzyk and Lothar & Horst Kautschor.

The Rev. Steve Schellin will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Friday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Margot to the American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th Street, Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
