Lois Corrine (Johnson) Krone, age 93, of Jackson Township, formerly of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017.

She was born on November 8, 1923 in Chesterton, to Earl Lawrence Johnson and Sarah Belle (Weaver) Johnson Dahme. She was married for 70 years to her loving husband, Clifford A. Krone who preceded her in death on September 14, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donald, and her son-in-law, Ben Sparks lll.She is survived by her sister Patricia (Gilbert) Kane, Springdale, AR, and by daughters, Karen (Ben, dec.) Sparks of Brown County, IN; Peggy Peterson (Jim) Lasky of Michigan City, IN; Kirsten (Michael Thomas) Crowe of Leo, IN, and her son, David (Laura Byers) Krone of Valparaiso, IN; by eight grandchildren, Jane (Andrew) Sparks Ziegwied of Portland, OR; Charles Sparks, of Milwaukee, WI; Sara Krone, San Rafael, CA; Glenn (Becki) Peterson, Osceola, IN; and Jessica Crowe and Katelyn Crowe, both of Leo, IN. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Samantha Peterson, Osceola, IN, and Darya Ziegweid and Gustin Ziegwied, both of Portland, OR.

She graduated from Thornton Township High School, Harvey, IL in 1941, and was married at the Lutheran Church in Markham, IL on November 3, 1943.

She enjoyed designing and remodeling her homes, having built three in the Chesterton area; the last was in Jackson Township where she retired in 1988. She was employed at the Chesterton State Bank for eight years, at Yost Elementary School as a school secretary for two years, and was office manager for 21 years for the Westchester Medical Group.

She was an accomplished seamstress, gardener and landscaper, an avid reader, and delved deeply into her family’s genealogical records. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since the 1950’s. She made early forays into computer use in the 1980’s, and was still very active online, networking, researching, and enjoying widespread contact with friends and family. She also had an excellent memory for details, and over the last 20 years, she authored extensive memoirs, much to the delight and gratitude of her family.

A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Cremation services were entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown, Indiana.
