Lawrence A. Chapman, age 92 passed away Tuesday evening, December 2, 2014 at the Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville. He was a resident of Morgantown.

Lawrence was born in Morgantown on October 9, 1922 to his parents, the late Claude and Almedia (Tracey) Chapman. He served with the United States Air Force during World War II. Lawrence married Nell B. (Minor) Chapman on October 6, 1951 in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1998 after 46 devoted years of marriage.

He was a retired machinist from the American Can Company in Indianapolis after 30 years of service. Lawrence also enjoyed working on his family farm raising crops and cattle. He was a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church and the Martinsville American Legion Post #230. Lawrence loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Anita S. (Tim) Haugh of Greenwood and a sister: Carolyn Hedger of Morgantown. He will be remembered by his grandchildren: Jason (Karen) Haugh of Shelbyville, Angela (Rodney) Foster of Terre Haute, Ricky (Kandi) Greenwood of Martinsville, Ryan (Diana) Greenwood of Indianapolis; great grandchildren: Arianna Foster of Terre Haute, Noah Greenwood of Martinsville, Kaitlyn Greenwood of Martinsville and Isiah Greenwood of Indianapolis; and a son in law: Rick Greenwood of Martinsville.

Lawrence was preceded in death by a daughter: Rita K. Greenwood; grandson: Andy Haugh; and siblings: Lester Chapman, Margaret McKee, Ida Smith and Veva Martindale.

The Rev. Ben Swopes will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville with Military Rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
