Karen H. Sooy

August 20, 1953 - September 30, 2017

Karen H. (Goff) Sooy, age 64, passed away all too soon on Saturday morning, September 30, 2017 at her home in Helmsburg.


She was born August 20, 1953, in Indianapolis, to her parents, the late Charles H. and Wilma J. (Maxey) Goff. Karen was a 1971 graduate of George Washington High School in Indianapolis and was the former owner and operator of the Helmsburg General Store. Prior to that, she worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines.


She enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, mushroom hunting and fishing. Karen was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University Men’s Basketball team. She loved spending time with her family and caring for her dogs, Lilly and Katrina.


She is survived by her siblings, Kitty Abney of Whiteland, Jennifer Sawrey, Denise Rynard and Penny (Jerry) McPherson all of Indianapolis; companion, Donald Weddle of Helmsburg; and several nieces and nephews.


Karen was preceded in death by siblings, Michael Goff, Mitchell Goff and Suzanne Zebrowski.


In keeping with Karen’s wishes, she was cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 22nd. from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Helmsburg General Store, 2268 W. Main Street in Nashville. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
