James W. "Jim" Fox

January 31, 1930 - March 28, 2018

James W. “Jim” Fox, age 88, passed away Wednesday morning, March 28, 2018 at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington. He was a resident of Brown County.

Jim was born January 31, 1930, in Indianapolis, to the late James Otto and Mabel (Bolton) Fox. He married Lula Ireta (Miller) Fox on July 24, 1982 under a sycamore tree in Brown County.  She lovingly survives after 35 years of marriage.

Jim was a hard working husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed living and raising his family in Brown County. He was a former member of Goshen Community Church in Brown County and was instrumental with the most recent remodel of the church, along with several other longtime church members.

Jim was also a former member of TRIAD in Brown County.

After retiring from Holland Motor Express in 1985, where he had been a dock worker for thirty-three years, Jim kept busy with carpentry, gardening and raising cattle & hogs. He was an avid coon and rabbit hunter in days past and found high school sports more interesting than professional sports because the students played for the love of the game. Jim loved getting together with family, especially with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim will be missed by his children: Charles Stephen (Brenda) Fox of Ellettsville, Brenda (Kenny) Mullis of Unionville, Debbie (Ray) Guffey, Cheryl Ann Unger, Gary Fox, Gregory Fox, Thomas (Benita) Fox, Dennis Fox and Joseph “Joe” (Georgia) Fox, all of Brown County; step children: April (Joe) Carter of Columbus, Wanda F. (Shannon) Nash of Indianapolis, Karen (Bill) Brooks of CO, Debra (Dennis) Sanders, Robin Whitaker, Richard (Bessie) Sumpter, Jeffrey (Natalie) Sumpter, Brian Sumpter & Colleen (Robert) Slevin, all of Brown County; 16 grandchildren; 22 step grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 33 step great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild on the way.

Jim is also survived by close friends, Pete Schrougham of Nashville and Joe Black of Trafalgar.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine H. (Weaver) Fox; son, Jimmy Ray Fox; grandson, Eddie Guffey; step grandson, Kelby Sumpter; siblings, Edna Pursey, Lorean Gray, Loretta Woodall, Mabel Condon, Raymond, Daniel and Russell Fox.

The Rev. Bruce Bond will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County.

I send prayers of peace for the family. I didn’t know Jim personally but work at Holland with Joe and had the pleasure to know Jimmy also. They are two wonderful men so I’m sure Jim was also.
