James L "Jim" Richardson

December 1, 1935 - April 14, 2015

James L. "Jim" Richardson, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 14, 2015 at home in Brown County.

He was born in Dayton, OH on December 1, 1935, to the late Orlin W. and Vera F. (Adams) Richardson. Jim attended Monroe High School in West Manchester, OH and went on to serve as a Marine Aviation Mechanic with the United States Marines Corp. during the Korean War.

Jim retired as the Division Manager of Southern Ohio in 1977 from the United Parcel Service after 19 years of service. His career began as a driver but quickly advanced to Management where his positions included Employment Manager and Personnel Manager. During his time with UPS, Jim completed Dale Carnegie Training for Public Speaking, as well as, two additional courses for Management. Jim retired again in 2007 from the Brown County School Corporation where he had been employed in the Maintenance Department and as a Bus Driver for nineteen years.

He was one of the founding members of the Brown County Youth Council/Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Brown County and was a thirty year member and past Elder of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Brown County. Jim loved being outdoors, spending time with his family and working around his home. He could often be found making wood projects, raising chickens & goats or just fixing anything. Later in life when his health declined, Jim enjoyed reading about American Indian history and watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Face the Nation & the CBS Sunday news programs. He and his wife Sally enjoyed bird watching & their rescue dog, Chance. Jim was a fan of NASCAR, the Indianapolis Colts with his favorite player being Andrew Luck.

Jim married Sally (Holmes) Richardson on June 19, 1999 in Nashville. She lovingly survives. He will be missed by his children: Ronald R. Richardson of Columbus, OH and Shari L. (Mike) Richardson-Leggins of Brown County; one sister: Patricia G. (Jim) Richardson-White McCoy of Columbus, OH; step children: Michael Wright of Lawrenceville, IL, Chris (Katie) Wright of Johnson County & Kim (Steve) Proctor of Brown County; grandchildren: Adam & Emilie Richardson, Britainy Koehl-Bauman and Allison Koehl-Stebleton; great grandchildren: Sophia, Samuel and Zion; and step grandchildren: Alexis, Danielle, Garrett, Colton, Payton and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-one years: Jeannine (Danzeisen) Richardson; and one daughter: Dawn A. Richardson.

Jim's family will honor his wishes to be cremated with a private family service to celebrate the life he lived. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.

I was so sad to here of Jim's passing. It seams like my family is getting smaller all the time. Some of you will not remember me. I am the youngest of the Richardson family cousin's. Jim's dad and my mom were siblings. Give sally and the kids my best. Love Dave.
