James G. Varner Jr., age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, December 29, 2015 at his home in Nashville.
He was born in South Fork, PA on January 9, 1921, to his parents, the late James Grant and Emma Viola (Wingard) Varner Sr. James served as a Baker Second Class with the United States Navy during World War II. He married Maude Ann (Shatto) Varner on September 28, 1946 in Mooresville. She preceded him in death on March 1, 1991 after 44 devoted years of marriage.
James was retired from Western Electric in Indianapolis as a Screw Machine Operator and was a 50 year member of the Union Village Masonic Lodge #545 in Bargersville. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, wood working and was an avid reader of anything historical or factual. James was a fan of Lawrence Welk's music and watching sports on ESPN. James will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Kym) Varner of Clarksville, Jane Varner of Indianapolis and Edward (Beverly) Varner of Nashville; grandchildren, Marie Zuniga of St. Augustine, FL, Julie Bagwell of Brunswick, GA, Samara Varner of Lafayette, Michelle Varner-Gault of Nashville and Travis Randall of Wisconsin.
James was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Macy.
Mr. Walter Macy will conduct a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Military rites will be presented by the Brown County Honor Guard. Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
