James E "Jim" Richardson

May 2, 1935 - October 9, 2013

James E. "Jim" Richardson, age 78, passed away gently on Wednesday morning, October 9,2013, at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Nashville.

Jim was born on May 2, 1935 in Aiken, SC to the late Julia May and Fred Louis Richardson. After spending his childhood in Aiken, he moved to Indianapolis with his family where he attended Broad Ripple High School. Jim joined the United States Marine Corps directly out of high school in 1953 and was Honorably Discharged in 1959.

Following his service, Jim returned home and married his sweetheart, the late Patricia A. (Van Landingham) Richardson on July 21, 1956. They had two sons, Jeff and Todd, both of whom survive. After spending a beautiful 51 years of marriage both loving and challenging each other, Jim and Patricia said goodbye when she passed away in 2008.

To begin his career, Jim found a position in sales at Unistrut Corporation, where he worked for 20 years. In 1985, using his experience in the industry,Jim founded his family business, J.R. Strut Supports, Inc., which continues to be a thriving business.

Jim was so lucky as to experience true love twice in one lifetime. He met Margie (George) McClain and they came to know each other through playful squabbles over coupon books and cobbler. Knowing that he'd met his match, Jim asked Margie to be his wife and they married on March 17, 2009.

Although he was a busy man, Jim always made time for the things in life that gave him the most joy. He enjoyed working outside in the sort of heat that drives everyone else inside, exploring the open road and all of the best restaurants that it offers, and staying extremely in-tune to the lives of the people he loved via the telephone.

In addition to his wife Margie and his sons Jeff and Todd Richardson, James is survived by a brother, Larry Snyder of Fortville; two grand-children, Elizabeth and J. Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Genevieve and Finnegan, all of whom live in Nashville.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Richardson; an infant son, Ralph "Buddy"; his parents, Julia and Fred; a brother, Ladson; and a sister, Sharon Snyder.

Jim's wishes were to be cremated with a private family service at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Jim to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
