James "Bud" Stogdill

July 21, 1931 - November 1, 2014

James "Bud" Stogdill, age 83 passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 1, 2014 at the Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Franklin. He was a resident of Nineveh.

Bud was born in Matthews, Indiana on July 21, 1931, to his parents, the late Otto and Beulah (Wotton) Stogdill. He served as a Private First Class with the Battery C 32nd Field Artillery Battalion of the United States Army during the Korean War. Bud married Kay (Hearth) Stogdill on December 23, 1960 in Bedford. Kay preceded him in death on September 17, 1990 after 29 devoted years of marriage.

Bud retired in 1993 as an Operator from Conrail Railroad in Avon after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Transport Workers Union of America and enjoyed working on his family farm raising cattle, hogs and grains. Bud was known for always being on the go visiting family and friends. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and was a fan of western movies.

He is survived by his loving children: Tina (Tom) Cave of Trafalgar, Tammy (Phillip) Murphy and Teresa Richardson, both of Nineveh. Bud will be remembered by his siblings: Kenneth Stogdill of Franklin, Betty (Everett) Reynolds of Greenfield, Lu Ella Stogdill of Bloomington, Joe Stogdill of Greenwood, Sam Stogdill of Franklin, Sarah (Donald) Mullins of Bloomington; grandchildren: Jacob (Justina) Murphy of Franklin, Mat (Mallory) Murphy of Cookeville, TN, LaBecca Prairie of Morgantown, Hannah Cave of Trafalgar, Brandon Richardson of Nineveh and Katie Richardson of Trafalgar; great grandson: Asher Murphy of Franklin and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and eight siblings.

The Rev. Jeff Johnson will conduct a funeral service on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery with military rites.
