James A. Plummer

January 4, 1948 - August 21, 2017

James A. “Jim” Plummer, age 69, passed away Monday morning, August 21, 2017 at his residence in Morgantown. He was a former resident of Indianapolis. 

 

Jim was born on January 4, 1948, in Greencastle to his parents, the late Bennett E. and Amy E. (Meyers) Plummer. He was a 1966 graduate of Greencastle High School and later earned a degree in Diesel Mechanics from Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis. Jim served as a Boilerman on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War for the United States Navy. Jim was awarded with the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star.  

 

Jim was the retired owner and operator of the Tool Crib in Mooresville. Prior to that, he worked as a Diesel Mechanic.

 

He was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Southport. Jim enjoyed reading his Bible and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and tinkering.

 

Jim is survived by his wife of 34 loving years, Sheila G. (Shelton) Plummer, whom he married on                       March 12, 1983 in Indianapolis. He is also survived by his children, Laura (Dan) Long of Brownsburg, James A. Plummer of Shelbyville, Mike (Lisa) Plummer of Greenfield and Sondra (Larry) Chapman of Morgantown; grandchildren, Geoff, Ryan, Chip, Taylor, Jesse, Hayden and Mason.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Janice Hubbard, Helen Young, Annamae Whitlock, Arlene Taylor, Earl Plummer and Richard Plummer.

 

Bro. Johnny Schoolcraft will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 6 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

 

Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Jim to the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn “Memorial Fund” 3729 W. Southport Road, Indianapolis, IN 46217.

When I was a child, I looked up to uncle Jimmy because of some of the wonderful things he did. He will be greatly missed by all.
