Helga E. (Rudels) Berzins, age 95 passed away Saturday afternoon, January 30, 2016 at Greenwood Meadows. She was a former resident of Morgantown.
Helga was born October 22, 1920, in Riga, Latvia to the late George and Irene Rudels. She grew up in Europe where she studied and became proficient in seven different languages. Helga moved to the United States at the age 29
She was employed for 25 years at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis where she was a Translator and Proof Reader. While her professional career was important to her, Helga took great pride in being a mother to her four daughters. She enjoyed listening to classical music, reading biographies and politics, and working in her flower gardens. Helga had a special touch for growing beautiful roses.
Helga is survived by four daughters: Ilze (Norman) Mooney of Martinsville, Anita Berzins of Ashville, NC, and Aija Berzins of Greenwood & Marite (Dennis) McGreevy of Punta Gorda, FL; five grandchildren: Michelle, Krista, Toni, Roger & Jason; and seven great-grandchildren: Aijana, Leigha, Andrea, Andrew, Sean, Harleigh & Kinsey.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Erika Perez; and two brothers: George & Heinz Rudels.
The Rev. Paul Mooney will conduct a funeral service at noon on Thursday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center located at 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
