Harry Arnold Gentry Sr., age 85 passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, February 5, 2014 at his home in Morgantown.
He was born on June 22, 1928, in Indianapolis, to the late Cecil and Lena (Tungett) Gentry. Harry attended IPS #16 before going on to serve in with the United States Navy during World War II and in the Korean War with the United States Army.
After his service to his country, Harry married Dorthea M. Lewis on September 25, 1954 in Indianapolis. She survives after 59 loving years.
Harry retired in 1993 from Amtrack in Beech Grove as an Airbrake Carman after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked for the Little Nashville Opry in Brown County for over 13 years as a custodian.
He was a member of the Morgantown Gospel Lighthouse Church and enjoyed woodworking, bird and squirrel watching and visiting with friends for breakfast at Bernie's Restaurant in Morgantown..
Harry is survived by his wife; children: Christena Gentry, Mark (Holly) Gentry both of Morgantown, Sharon Kay (Bruce) Fox of Jasonville, Harry (Wanda) Gentry Jr. of Franklin; brother: Virgil (Pat) Gentry of Florida; six grandchildren: Norman Fox, Raylee Fox both of Worthington Joseph Gentry of Franklin, Jeffrey Thomas of Palm Harbor, Florida, Amber Thomas of Martinsville, Rusty Gentry of Indianapolis; and seven great-grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by a daughter: Luelenn Marie Gentry on February 28, 1997.
The Rev. Mike Wagner will conduct a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, at the Morgantown Gospel Lighthouse Church, 340 Hoosier Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Funeral services have been entrusted with Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
