George M. Phillips, age 82 passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 6, 2013 at the Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation Center in Greenwood. He was a resident of Morgantown and former resident of Bethel, Conn.
George was born in Stamford, CT on September 13, 1930 to the late George Morton and Mary A. (Salanika) Phillips. He was a 1951 graduate of Stamford High School and went on to serve with the United State Air Force as an Airman First Class during the Korean War. George married Norma Jean (Love) Phillips on January 8, 1956 in Acton. She preceded him in death on August 3, 2011 after fifty-five loving years of marriage.
He retired in 1981 as the Senior Sales Coordinator for Perkin – Elmer Corporation in Norwalk, Conn. after 35 years of service. George was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church and a former member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Conn. He also was a 45 year member of the Masonic Lodge Union #5 in Stamford, Conn. and the Order of Eastern Star #579 in Morgantown. George enjoyed reading, coin collecting and playing chess.
He is survived by his children: Jean E. Arpi of Martinsville, Ruth A. (Kevin) Bodnar of Bethlehem, Conn. and Paul H. Phillips of Florence, SC. George will be remembered by his six grandchildren: Zachary, Jason, Jessica, Kimberly, Gabriella & Becca.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday at the Morgantown United Methodist Church, 20 E. Washington Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday at the church. A Masonic Service will be conducted by the Morgantown Masonic Lodge at 7:30 pm on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
