Felix D. Santiago, age 66 passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2015 at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Martinsville.
Felix was born July 25, 1948 in Puerto Rico to his parents, the late Juan Nunez and Anna Marie Diaz. He served as a Specialist 5 with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Felix met the love of his life, Cathy I. Hale, while working at River Downs Horse Track in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married at the track in the Winner's Circle on October 17, 1993.
Felix retired in 2008 as a self-employed Thoroughbred Horse Trainer after 30 years of service throughout the United States. After retirement, he worked for JC Penny as a forklift driver at the warehouse in Plainfield for four years.
Felix is survived by his wife, Cathy; children: Elizabeth Santiago-Patterson of Elyria, OH and Felix Charles (Anna) Santiago of Miami, FL; step children: Crystal (John) Waldrip-McClure of Brooklyn, Shannon (Perry) Waldrip-Lambert and Shawn (Dean) Waldrip-Speers both of Martinsville; sister: Regina Rios of Connecticut; half-sister: Maria Cora of Ashtabula, OH; eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Felix enjoyed spending time with his dogs and caring for his trees in his orchard. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers.
Felix's family will respect his wishes and he will be cremated with no services. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
