Doris Mae (Purvis) White, age 80 entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 14, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at her residence in Morgantown. Doris will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched through the years and will always be remembered for her unwavering faith in God and her passion for helping others in need.
Doris was born in Indianapolis on July 26, 1933 to the late Leslie Kenneth Purvis and Beatrice Irene (Richardson) Purvis. She was a 1951 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. On April 7, 1951 she married John Davis White. John preceded her in death on November 8, 2003 after 52 loving years of marriage.
Doris retired in 1992 as the Assistant Cashier over the Mortgage Department for First Merchants Bank in Morgantown after 25 years of service. She was a 67 year member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Morgantown. Doris was dedicated to her church family and volunteered as a Mid-Wife for the church since the early 1960’s.
She enjoyed traveling with her twin sister Dolores and reading her bible. Her family and especially her grandchildren were very important to her.
Doris is survived by her children: Lucinda Mae (Dennis) Pope, Peggy Lynn (Rick) Butler, Nancy Jane (Stanley) White, and Dennis Ray White, all of Morgantown and Jenny Sue (Carroll) Finch of Rogers AR. She will be remembered by her ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and by her twin sister Dolores Rae Branham.
She was preceded in death by a son: Duane Davis White and one sister Rene Rita Madden.
Brother Stan White will conduct a funeral service at 1 PM on Saturday, April 19. 2014 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 PM to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
