Dora B. Merriman, age 84 passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, December 20, 2012 at her home in Indianapolis.
She was born March 27, 1928 in Brown County to the late Clarence & Hallie J. (Fleener) Merriman. Dora was a 1946 graduate of Helmsburg High School and retired in 1985 as a dedicated Legal Secretary for Ice Miller, Dinadio & Ryan Law Firm in Indianapolis after 28 years of service. Prior to that, she was an administrative secretary at the University of California in Los Angeles.
Being the oldest child of ten, she helped her parents in raising her siblings and in return, her siblings loved her like a mother and enjoyed caring for her during her later years. As a young lady growing up in Brown County, she became a member of the Bear Creek Church in westernBrownCountyand later became a faithful member of the Thompson Road Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
Dora had a passion for the arts which she help support the Indianapolis Orchestra and Opera. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and learning about history. Her travels took her to Rome, France, Russia, England and Italy. Dora also enjoyed reading and learning about historical figures.
Dora will be remembered by her siblings: three sisters: Esther Teague of Waynesville, MO, Rosey Beauchamp of Cloverdale & Marie (Stanley) Fishel of Unionville; two brothers: Wayne Merriman of Quincy & Clarence (Mary) Merriman Jr. of Whiteland; caregiver Rhoda Whitaker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Louise Vandover and three brothers: George, Frank & James Merriman.
The Rev. Tony Slutz will conduct a funeral service 1 pm Friday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 am until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Dora will be laid to rest at Bear Creek Cemetery in Brown County.
