Donald R. Moody, age 69, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2016 at the Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Trafalgar.
Don was born on July 4, 1947, in Indianapolis, to the late Donald E. and Betty J. (Berkholz) Moody. He was a 1965 graduate of Southport High School and went on to attend Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Don married Mary Ellen (Ray) Moody on July 4, 1971 in Trafalgar. She lovingly survives after 45 years of marriage.
Don is also survived by his daughter, Emily Walters and granddaughter Abigail Walters both of Franklin, step-children, Amy (Reginald) Smith of Atlanta, GA and Thomas J. Kean of Indiana; step-grandchildren, Jordan and Adrienne Smith both of Atlanta, GA; sister, Debbie (Craig) Magera and niece Grace Magera both of Simpsonville, SC and great-grandchildren Jaylen & Jordan Jr. Smith.
He retired in 2003 as a Mortgage Broker with BFS Mortgage in Greenwood. Don loved golfing, fishing, reading biographies and spending time with his family. He enjoyed the IndyCar Racing Series and had the opportunity to work on the pit crew as a mechanic for drivers Sammy Sessions and LeeRoy Yarbrough. Don was also an avid Indianapolis Colts fan.
The Rev. Jeff Johnson will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Friday at Fair Haven Christian Church 1476 West 300 South in Franklin. Friends may call from noon until service time on Friday at the church. Burial will be at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
