David L. Kemp, age 70 passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, December 21, 2013 at his home in Morgantown after a five year courageous battle with colon cancer.
David was born in Morgantown on December 27, 1942 to his parents, the late Riley W. and Mary Jane (Nay) Kemp. He was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Specialist 4 with the Company "E" of the 738th Maintenance Battalion for the Indiana National Guard. David married Joyce R. Parson on February 26, 1967 in Brown County and she lovingly survives after 46 years of marriage.
He retired in 1993 as a Thread Grinder Machinist for the Cummins Engine Company in Columbus after 33 years of service. David was a member of the Diesel Workers Union in Columbus, Fellowship Baptist Church in Trafalgar and a former member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. He was also a life-time member of the National Rifle Association. David enjoyed wood working, working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and loyal father who always provided for his family.
David is survived by wife, sons: David E. (Valerie) Kemp and Charles E. (Patty Johns) Kemp both of Morgantown; siblings: Patsy (Barry) Williams of Morgantown, Shirley (George) Long of Wasilla, AK and Richard L. Kemp of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Jeff Hopson will conduct a funeral service 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
