Bobby Gene Whetstine, age 82, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2016 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Brown County.
Bobby was born November 11, 1933, in Franklin, to the late Lester Thuerle and Rose Ann (Ratliff) Whetstine. He attended school in Franklin and at age 17 he started learning the trade of home building by working for Jones Construction in Franklin. Bobby later became the owner and operator of Whetstine Construction Company until he retired in 2001. During his 51 years of service, he built many homes in the surrounding counties.
Bobby was a member of the Nineveh Christian Church. He enjoyed the outdoors by mushroom hunting, coon hunting and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. Bobby was known for having two gardens, one for family and one for friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis M. (King) Whetstine, whom he married on November 19, 1952 in Franklin. Bobby will be remembered by his children, Richard L. (Pam) Whetstine of Nineveh and Lu Ann (Tim) Smith of Taylors, SC; siblings, James (Sue) Whetstine of Brown County and Patty Frost of Franklin; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death sons, Norman "Butch" Whetstine and Brad Alan Whetstine; brother, Charles Whetstine; two granddaughters and a grandson.
The Rev. Danny Thomas will conduct a graveside service on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
