Arthur E. “Art” Adams Jr., age 87, passed away Tuesday morning, December 20, 2016 at his home in Venice, Florida. He was a former resident of Trafalgar.
Art was born March 24, 1929, in Indianapolis, to the late Arthur E. Sr. and Margaret A. (Haggard) Adams. He was a 1948 graduate of Helmsburg High School and went on to serve as a Seaman with the United States Navy Reserves for five years. Art retired in 1992 from Bennett Tool & Die in Bargersville after ten years of service. He worked in the Tool and Die Industry for over 40 years.
Art was a HAM Radio Operator and joined the Military Armature Radio Service (MARS), which provided communication for many families of service members across the US and overseas. He was a member of the New Hope Christian Church in Nokomis, Florida and a former member of the Samaria Christian Church. Art was also a member of the Trafalgar Masonic Lodge.
After retirement, Art fell in love with wood working. He made many wooden toys that were distributed worldwide by his church in Florida, through Samaritans Purse. Art enjoyed golfing, fishing and was a fan of NASCAR with his favorite driver being Jimmie Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia J. (Malcolm) Adams, whom he married on August 28, 1949 in Indianapolis. sons, Michael (Toni) Adams of Sarasota, Florida and Stephen (Terry) Adams of Venice, Florida; grandchildren, Shawn Adams of Greenwood, Susanne Adams of Franklin, Benjamin Adams of Charleston, South Carolina and Ryan Adams of Charlotte, North Carolina; great grandchild, Aiden and a sister, Louise Hutchison of Spearsville.
Art was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Herman and Irvin Adams.
Rev. Ken Smith will conduct a graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Military Rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
