Virginia Slater Obituary

Virginia M. (Fannin) Slater, age 74 passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 22, 2024 at Hickory Creek in Franklin. She was a resident of Brown County.

Virginia was born November 1, 1949 in Beech Grove, to her parents, the late Harvey M. and Sybelelaine (Neller) Fannin. She worked for Riders Canning Factory during the 1960's and eventually retired in 1986 from the Housekeeping Department at the Brown County Inn in Nashville. She married Franklin L. “Frank” Slater Sr. on September 16, 1969 in Spearsville and were blessed with 54 devoted years of marriage.

Virginia was a longtime member of Unity Baptist Church in Brown County. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and studying her Bible. Virginia was a fan of many television shows with 7th Heaven and Touched by an Angel being her favorite. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Virginia will be missed by her husband Franklin “Frank” Slater Sr. of Brown County; son, Franklin L “Frankie” (Carol) Slater II of Brown County; siblings, Sybel (Robert) Sanders of Trafalgar and Harrison R. “Mac” (Anita) Fannin of Arizona; half siblings, Alice Pruitt, Ruth Ann Miller, Wayne Edward Miller, and Wendell Lee Miller; grandchildren, Megan Nicole (Jeremiah) Wesley, Bridgette K. Slater and Justin Allen (Maddie) Slater; and great grandchildren; Helen Nicole Marie Slater, Abigail Kay Slater and Grady Allen Wesley.

Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her infant sister Beverly E. Fannin, infant brother, Ted John Fannin; siblings, Harvey Mander “Mickey” Fannin II and Harold H. Fannin and a son, Ted John Slater.

Pastor Rick Owensby will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27th Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery in Brown County, following the service.
